CHAOS NOW* by Jean Dawson

Just for fun, let’s review an album, since I’m running out of new cool songs to go through. You might call it heresy not to review something better, like, Dark Side of the Moon, but you know I don’t like reviewing albums unless it’s on a whim.

Three Head presents a curious chant with the countdown followed by “Mas!” Which I’m not sure means it’s a party rave song or something else. Kinda weird ish.

Glory sounds like a slow version of the usual pop rock songs except with a stronger voice sometimes. Seems to have potential.

Kids Eat Pills has a more mediocre feel with the voice relatively monotonous in the melody. I’m not sure if the message is talking about how kids get depressed too easily, and the tone is a bit hard to tell how I’m supposed to feel.

Pos One Neg One has a weird ambient noise thing going on, which I don’t really understand, seems quite a bit experimental. Has a lot of very strange progressions going on there.

Bad Fruit is not very impressive as it follows a pretty mellow feeling, kind of dreamy backing. Not sure what he’s aiming for here.

0 Heroes is remarkably fitting of a title, I’m not really hearing and heroism in this one, the ending is alright but the rest just seems to trudge along without any big notable qualities.

Screw Face sounds like how he wants us to react to his song, he shouts out a lot of stuff before going into his song, which is softer, but the contrast makes it very… unusual to say the least. It’s like he wanted to be metal without being metal, ya know.

Porn Acting sounds like it’s probably gonna be about consumerism or the nature of current industry, but the message is hard to parse through especially listening to his singing, however dreamy sounding, is hard to grasp the mood. Seems okay for the most part.

Black Mirror is… is it shoegaze? I guess it’s not too bad, it could definitely be worse. IDK If it’s telling any messages similar to the show, the singing still isn’t super clear overall.

Huh is just kinda like… huh. I mean, I dunno what I can say about this one. Midway it shifts to a different tune, so I have no idea if he ran out of ideas for the first half.

Sick of It might be intended for those feel the album being dragging on and trying to appeal to their mood. I mean, I can’t even tell what he’s sick of with the voice ringing a bajillion times and it’s hard to tell over the loud production in the back.

Pirate Radio might be talking about stealing songs, but I’m not sure if he’s happy about it or exasperated, it’s honestly hard to tell with the dreamy feeling. From the mood, it feels he actually wants people to Pirate the radio? Eh. Either way, this song is one of the better ones since it has a nice uplifting feeling. Feels kinda like Sufjan Stevens…

Overall rating: 60/100. Has potential but a lot of message is lost, because I can’t listen to the dreamy rock sounds overwhelming his fast talking, and there aren’t any super memorable hooks to me.
