Ballad of Princess Star – Patrick Stump

though created for the show Star vs the Force of Evil, the main singer of Fall Out Boy shows his versatility within an epic rock ballad without any choruses. The beginning of the rock part is of course the best, even if it abuses common chord progression, especially the lines “Weaving magic like a born spell-caster, And wreaking havoc like a natural disaster”, along with “She’s a thunderstorm roaring through the night, She’s our shooting Star, and she’s lighting up the sky!”. The next slower verses are a bit of a mouthful, but they get the story across quite well. The final lines are clearly meant for humorous and an “oh no” effect, especially with the quick singing of who Star’s love was. Overall, quite an insane song, arguably comparable to a modern attempt at Bohemian Rhapsody. (B)
