Battle of the 98’s

The songs rated 98 are very tough to compete against each other since they are so different. With Golden Wings, I don’t want the cool electronic theme to get old, and it isn’t necessarily catchy as it is simply well done. Layla is a tricky one since it’s two themes in one, with both having merit and me liking the first one more (hence why -2 out of 100). Plastic Love is similarly structured except using the repeating chorus as the second half instead of a slow medley, keeping the same mood throughout.

After much deliberation, I think the best out of the four is Golden Wings. It has a very cool gimmick there aren’t any hidden subtleties. Layla is a good old rock classic but the inclusion of the second theme makes me raise eyebrows and question it. Finally, Plastic Love is just perhaps a little too long to be truly enjoyable.

*Note: During this battle’s first occurrence, Happy Halloween, a previous 98, has moved on to be 100.
